Where do I even start with this one…. First, I will tell you that I am a big fan of A.L. Jackson’s writing style. She has such a unique way of writing that I have not seen before. The first book that I read from A.L. was “Take this Regret” Book #1 in this series, and it was written beautifully. I LOVED the story and now can’t wait to read more from this Author! I was not sure what to expect with “If Forever Comes”, as I thought I was going to get into the continuation of Christian and Elizabeth’s story and it would be all hearts, love and flowers. I was not expecting the heart-breaking devastation that the characters were faced with in this book. A.L. writes with such emotion to this real-life situation, she is able to put you right into the characters’ heads.

“There is nothing that could make me stop loving you. Nothing that could make me stop needing you. You are my start and you are my finish, the one who’s going to be there for everything in between.”

While it was not the continuation of a happily ever after, you are faced with instead an emotional read that kept you wondering where things could have went so wrong. Christian and Elizabeth’s love is intense and they have already overcome so many things only to have a wrench thrown into their happily ever after and we watch as both Christian and Elizabeth go to dark places in this story.

“But life had taken Elizabeth and me down a path neither of us knew how to navigate. One neither of us could bear. Life sometimes puts so much weight on our shoulders we crumble, bends us so far we break.”

Don’t get me wrong here, the story is NOT ALL sad, as you get flashbacks from where Take this Regret left off and you continue to feel the intensity and love from these characters… and are given some steamy scenes. BUT, when the unforeseen happens, will they still get their happily ever after? Will they keep their newly reunited family together? I am not a spoiler, so you will not hear the answer from me! If you have not started this series, I highly recommend that you do! As always, I would love to hear your thoughts.

 

Excerpt:

It was always more fucking time. But time only turned around and heaped more sorrow on top of us. And Matthew hadn’t suffered through what we had. He hadn’t watched the light dim in Elizabeth’s eyes. Not the way I had. I wasn’t sure any amount of time could rekindle it.

“So is this what you do with yourself night after night when you don’t have Lizzie?”

I lifted a noncommittal shoulder. “What? You think I should sit alone in my condo instead?” I released a resentful snort. “Fuck that.”

Anger pinged around in my chest. My condo had finally gone under contract too, while Elizabeth and I had searched for the perfect home to raise our family in. But I had to back out of the sale at the last minute so I’d at least have someplace to sleep while the rest of my world fell apart.

Matthew pinned me with a look of disbelief. “So this is better? This is your solution?” His words hardened as he waved an exasperated hand around the room. “Do you think I don’t get it, Christian? Do you think I don’t know how hard this is for you?”

I shook my head and turned away, tipped my glass back to my mouth. No, I didn’t think he got it. How the hell could he? He got to crawl in bed with the woman he loved every night, not lie across town from her, wide awake, worrying that might be the exact moment she was breaking into pieces every god-damned minute of the night.
